Harry Potter And The Cursed Child: Possible Cast Reveals Casting of Actors of Color

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a multi-award-winning two-part drama, has announced the addition of new cast members to the School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Warner Bros. has also revealed that there will be other chapters in the Harry Potter series, including the eagerly anticipated video game Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions (TBA), which is based on the Wizarding World’s most well-known sport.

About Harry Potter And The Cursed Child Play

The play has been running at the Palace Theater in London since it first arrived in 2016. Additionally, it’s currently showing in New York, Hamburg, and Tokyo. Melbourne, Toronto, and San Francisco were among the other international sites where it was well received.

Following Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Cursed Child is referred to as “the eighth Harry Potter story”.

It takes place 19 years after Deathly Hallows and follows Harry Potter, now Head of the Department of Magic Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Magic, and his son, Albus Severus Potter, who is about to attend his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Albus makes friends with Scorpius Malfoy, the son of Draco Malfoy, while attending Hogwarts. The two use a Time-Turner to go back in time to save Cedric Diggory, but they unintentionally create a different timeline in which Tom Riddle/Lord Voldemort rules the Wizarding World.

The play is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions, directed by John Tiffany with movement by Steven Hoggett, set by Christine Jones, costumes by Katrina Lindsay, music and arrangements by Imogen Heap, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gareth Fry, illusions & magic by Jamie Harrison, music supervision & arrangements by Martin Lowe and casting by Julia Horan CDG and Lotte Hines CDG.

It has sold over six million tickets worldwide since its world premiere in London in 2016 and holds 60 major honors, including nine Laurence Olivier Awards and six Tony Awards. The two-part production is currently booking through May 19, 2024 at the Palace Theatre.

New Cast Of ‘Harry Potter And The Cursed Child’

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child has now unveiled a brand-new cast for the London production, following the celebration of its seventh anniversary last month and the three-day “Back to Hogwarts Day” event that began on September 1.

David Ricardo-Pearce will play Harry Potter, with Polly Frame as Ginny Potter and Ellis Rae as their son Albus Potter. Thomas Aldridge continues as Ron Weasley with Jade Ogugua joining the cast to play Hermione Granger along with Taneetrah Porter as their daughter Rose Granger-Weasley. Steve John Shepherd will play Draco Malfoy, with Harry Acklowe as his son Scorpius Malfoy.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is said to be the inspiration for the ninth movie in the series, which is long in the making. Rupert Grint (Ronald Weasley) and Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) have both indicated interest in playing their characters again, but Warner Bros. has not yet officially announced that such a film is in the works.

However, there would probably be some controversy surrounding a Cursed Child movie. Back in 2016, there was uproar when British-South African actress Noma Dumezweni was chosen to play Hermione Granger in the stage performance. Although Hermione has since been portrayed by Rakie Ayola, Michelle Gayle, and will shortly be by Jade Ogugua, the show still accurately depicts her as a person of colour.
