Jamie was born in Saddle River, NJ, USA on July 18, 1964. He spent his childhood with his four siblings living in Northern New Jersey. After graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Richmond, he ventured into theatre and acting in New York.

He initially had the ambition to become a professional hockey player, but when he was injured while playing, he shifted his focus to the world of acting.

At the tender age of 5, Jamie was inspired to pursue acting after viewing the Walt Disney classic, Robin Hood.
